Stock cars

hi

I’ve been looking for stock car kits that I can build and run on my layout under my own road name. Dosen’t necessarily have to be just undecorated but straight colors such as red. They will be painted in my paint scheme. Ready to roll is fine just I would prefer kits. I found a couple a while back but now there on special order only.

Hi!

What scale are you looking for ? I’ll assume “HO”, as that is the most common and the one I can talk about.

There are “tons” of stock car offerings out there. Athearn, Walthers, etc., etc. are readily available. Your best bet - other than the local hobby shop or major internet stores - is Ebay. Log on and key “stock car”, and then narrow it down by scale and so forth.

You should find more than you could possibly want…

Try Proto 2000 stock car kits. Usually they can be found for a reasonable price and are fun to build.

I agree on the Proto kits, if you can still find them.

This one is a double-deck car, appropriate for hogs or sheep. These are very nicely detailed cars. There are some small parts, brake and roof-end details, mostly, but all the tedious stuff like the grab-ons and ladders are all factory applied.

I have a few proto kits and their great! rambo1…

I used cars from Athearn:

Accurail:

AHM:

Train Miniature (now Walthers):

Proto2000 - doubledeck (now Walthers):

Proto2000 - single deck:

…and Central Valley:

All are/were available as kits, although some of mine were built or partially built when I got them. All have been modified to some degree. [swg]

Wow didn’t realize there were so many cars out there in ho scale. Thanks for the help. The ones I mentioned in the original post was intermountain

I’m not sure why these are special order. Intermountain’s website indicates they are in stock.
