Stop signs

I remember a time when stop signs were not red but yellow on the top and the bottom with a white band and black letters in the middle. Does anyone know when this changed and was it done at the same time throughout the U.S.

I started thinking about this when I read another thread that discussed the changeover from olive mailboxes to the red and blue. I was surprised to learn that happened in 1955. I would have thought it was a little later since I remember the olive mailboxes but I would have been about 3 1/2 years old when the change occurred.

Why can I remember obsure details from 50 years ago but can’t remember where I put my reading glasses?

I knew this had come up before. Here’s a thread with lots of these things discussed…
