My dad drives the truck up to the flashing crossing lights. A see five SL&A engines with the orange paint scheme rumble over the crossing. The train was only about 30-40 cars long, but the 5 engines were required for the steep grades along this line. We followed it going about 15 mph. Then we come to a stretch of road that heads away from the tracks for about 4 miles. We come to the next crossing and wait to see the train cross. The engineer probably recognizes the fact that I’m a train fan. There are no more crossings along this road except for an overpass over the tracks. We stop there and watch the lights shine through the fog and on to the tracks. It was the most amazing train moment of my life. Then when the train approaches the engineer blows the horn which almost made me fall over. Man that was loud! Then we followed it and turned on to a road where the tracks crossed. The engineer now blows the horn dirctly at us when he crosses the track and waves. After the train passes by, we head back home. I will always remember that moment.
Oh common people! this is such a good story read it and reply please! It’s pretty bad when I have to reply to my own forum. But it’s OK. Byebye!
For the last time its the D&H!..Long live the D&H!!!
Don’t be so pushy and get bent because no one replys to your story. That will not win you any freinds here. Just because no one replys to a story does not mean we don’t enjoy reading it. I have posted some long storys here myself and had little response, but just cause no one responds does not mean they are not enjoyed. After all what is there to say? It’s not like your asking something that will evoke a response. So don’t get tightened up cause nobody comments on it.[8D]
Great story. SLR is one of my favorite roads.
