Strasburg trucks

I got to visit Strasburg recently and I noticed something odd about the trucks. Are they using journal bearings? If so, is this allowed because they’re a private, short-line railway?

I’m not that familiar with Strasburg’s practices, but journal bearings are allowed on historic equipment that won’t be used in interchange, of course with speed and other restrictions.

The other possibility is that the trucks are converted to roller beraings, but the old journal covers were left in place to maintain the historic appearance of the car.

There were or are roller bearings specificalliy made to fit old journal box housings. This applied to diesels as well as freight and passenger equipment.
