Street running

Dash 9 with a few cars running down Third Street to Commerce Street. YouTube video

Great video!!! That looks like some really nice work. I haven’t seen much street running on layouts. I have always had an interest in modeling street running, but have never gotten around to it. I want to model the Texas Transportation Company in it’s entirety from the Southern Pacific interchange to the Pearl brewery in San Antonio. We will be moving again when the Air Force decides it is time, so that project will have to wait.

Thanks for the post!!

Very nice. I like the weathering on the cars, and the realistically slow speed of the train on the video.

Nice video. The grade down that street looks a little steep though for the street running I’ve actually seen.

Great video Wolfgang! Thanks for sharing, I have subscribed to your You Tube account.

What technique do you use for the street / track ROW placement?

Cheers,

Ryan

Very nice video indeed. I have street trackage running from a yard lead through downtown to deliver cars to two industries at the end of Main Street. It’s about 20 actual feet of street running and I used the Walthers brick street system and track inserts to do the job. It both looks and runs good. I’ve always been fascinated with street running so I just had to include it in my layout. The grade does look kind of steep coming down the street but I don’t know if that’s an optical illusion. Is that also another track running off the left from the the street track? It would be nice to see a diagram of what you’ve done but it looks and sounds great to me.

For the street I use plaster, gypsum. And scrap it with home made tool. You see them at my structures site.

For pics of Third Street District go to the special Third Streetsite. There’re lot of pictures together with a track plan.

Wow , Wolfgang wunderbar , You capture the feel of a U.S. town better than people that live here. Very nice modeling work. I feel like I’ve been there it’s so real and familiar.

Thank you for the nice words.

My source of information is the internet and books and magazines like MR. I’ve never been to the USA. Following an article by Bill Baumann in Model Railroader Nov. 85 I’ve constructed Third Street District in 1994.

ROFLMAO!!!

Now THAT is funny! The size difference between the loco and people was the thing that sent me laughing. Now that I think about it, something like that was described in another thread.

This also makes sense because it IS Canadian National.

Great movie! I love the slow speed!

Wolfgang, Danke shoen for sharing this with us. Since I model a much earlier period from 1947 to 1950, it was a shock to see such a large road engine doing street running/switching a local. It would be more believable to me with a switcher or GP7 or 9. I do know there was street running in Salem, on the Oregon Electric. Again, thanks! jc5729 John Colley, Port Townsend, WA

Wolfgang, I’m flabbergasted! You have one of the best American prototype layouts I’ve ever seen yet you’ve never been to the US? I can’t imagine what a mess I’d make of a German prototype layout no matter how many books I read. If you ever get to Alabama, I’ll be happy to show you around so you can see just what a good job you’ve done.
