I am into buildings lately I guess, being that my layout is modern I wanted a strip mall on my layout , This is mostly a matter of cobbling together as much styrene as I can handle. The following is picture of me laying out the front of the stores with Pike Stuff modern windows and doors. The large piece beyond is The upper front of the Mall. Going to be an interest test of my patience.
Yay, a photo serial! I love watching things develop from one work session to the next. Thanks.
Have you thought about what stores you’ll have?
I did post this across the street too, I mention there maybe Radio Shack, a shoe store , maybe a Kinko’s. But one store will be a Southwest type store , like selling indian pottery and stuff. Maybe called Southwestern Accents or something like that. I will update as I go along.

Jerry,
have you looked at this:

It’s from Summit-USA. Kind of pricy I guess.
Very nice looking work! I’ll be interested in seeing how the strip mall comes out.
Where is the hobby shop?
I go back to this with a caveat , I know about the kits from Summit , the idea for building this from scratch came from looking at their great but " pricey " kits. JK and I have PM’ed on this subject. I just happened to have a huge store of evergreen that I have purchased over the years and decided to put it to a good use. And I’ll admit I love the challenge of building things myself. More to come …
Remember, he’s modeling modern. The hobby shop probably went out of business! [;)]
The hobby shop went out of business because everyone was buying everything on line.
I was just thinking the same thing. To model modern day, you could make 2/3 of the stores vacant. That makes have realistic signs easier, just need a few small posts from where the signs were removed.
Looks good, I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Have moved to primer stage to examine for defects. Primer is great for that.
Yup, it even shows the fingerprints on the back wall!! Great job so far![:D]

Your rectangular box has holes in it. That’ll never hold water.
Actually I think your strip mall is a great idea. You should think about selling them as kits. I’d buy one.
Jerry,
That’s a great looking building! What is the horizontal line just above the windows and doors? Is it unpainted or is it a ridge to mount awnings or something else?

If your strip mall was in Dallas, it would have to have a nail manicure place in it!

Those are pretty much everywhere anymore. You could always substitute a hair care products store. Every strip mall I’ve seen has either one or the other.
He could always put one of those Dollar Tree stores in, the place where everything sells for a buck.
Another suggestion would be a cell phone store. Since it’s a strip mall, it should be one of the second tier, fly-by-night carriers like Cricket or CellularOne.

[:O][:I] that’s a piece of 1/4 square tubing that the primer didn’t hit well, looks funny in the pix.
It’s moved to final paint , I guess , working on interior details today.
