Stripe Decals and Handrail Installation

I am painting 2 SD40-2s in Missouri Pacific colors. When I add the long white stripe decals that run along the bottom of the engine how is the best way to add the handrail sanctions without causing damage to the decal? Thanks for the help.

If the stripe is one that runs along the frame edge, you can’t. Don’t sweat it, though, just touch up the base of the handrail stanchions with white paint, if the prototype has 'em that way. If not, just leave them whatever color the prototype uses.

So just poke a hole through the decal and if damage occurs touch up?

Correct. It’s going to happen on all kinds of different projects. That’s why investing in a set of paint pens from Elmer’s is a good idea. Nice opaque paint, a fine point, and no cleanup. [:)]

UP2CSX I did not know that Elmer made paint pens. Can you tell me about them?

Thanks

Either cut the stripe to fit between the stanchions or run the stripe the length of the sidesill and place the stanchions over it. Mopac cut the separate pieces of reflective striping tape to fit between.

You can get the Elmer’s pint pens in the crafts section of Wlmart. I was sceptical at first since they are $10 for five different colors but the paint is by far the best at covering in one stroke and the fine point makes them easy to control. I’ve used them for crosswalks, yellow centerstripes on roads, and all sorts of little touchup tasks. They really work great.
