Striping Paint from Damaged Shell

I recently bought a used dummy TR4 Calf painted for Southern Pacific. However, after further research I discovered that the SP never owned any TR4s. I wish to attempt to repaint the loco, but the top of the shell appears to have melted (it was like this when I bought it). There are no holes in the shell, but I am wondering if I were to try to strip the paint that it would dissolve the shell where it is melted. Does anyone have any experience with this or tips?

Many modelers like 90% or better isopropanol. Try this link too http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/4146

The paint removing process is a chemical one between the paint & the paint remover of your choice.
Having a spot on your shell that is melted or distorted would not change it, after all they were all melted & injected to make the original mould.
This one sounds like a good one to try out paint removing.
Most folks like 91% Iso Alcohol, & removers like them.

Best of luck,
