What can I use to strip the factory lettering from an Athearn 50’ covered hopper car without damaging the actual paint?
I used Micro Set and a Q tip. Applied a little, waited, worked it in, repeat. I did this while in front of the TV and it was gone in no time but the base paint was still there
ratled
Try Walther’s Solvaset to soften the lettering and a pencil eraser, (Pink Pearl) to remove it. Or, an electric eraser of the sort used by draftsmen back before CAD took over.
I had decent results with dstarr’s method on a Dash 9. I’d do it again if I had a need.
If you are subscribed to Model Railroader, there is a great video in expert tips for removing factory-printed lettering. I hope it helps!
Just be careful using this gadget. Easy to get carried away. (please don’t ask how I know)
