Stump car?

Nice simple question… what is/was a stump car please? Apparently at least SCL had them…

Thanks

Cars used for carrying stumps, of course.

[banghead]Oh! Of course! I should have known! [sigh] Looking at the link - chemical works always use stumps… erm [%-)] tree stumps? They’re making charcoal perhaps? [:)]

… or would a “stump” be some sort of special container? maybe only used in SCL territory?

Thanks…

Wood, including tree stumps, contains various useful chemicals (turpentine is an example). So, tree stumps are the presumed content of the cars. Not sure what the chemical companies did after extracting chemicals. Doubt those cars traveled far with those low-value stumps.

Google to the rescue again.
