recently had a NS raodrailer do an emergency stop in my town, during one of the train’s stop-start fits, two teen boys shoved their bikes under, almost got hit by wheels, narrowly avoided a SD 60 doing a light engine move on the other track. could just see the lawsuit the boys parents would have brought aganst NS.
on another subject, has anybody noticed how much $ is being spent to put in light rail lines? didn’t they have these back a century ago, called them trollies or street cars? what’s the old saw about progress?

I agree that the railroads are getting sued entirely to much because of peoples stupidity. Even though its unfortunate when someone dies people need to take responsibility and not blame anyone in sight. [2c]
Obviously future Darwin Award candidates.
I wonder if the boys were scared by the SD60?
I would think that would account for a fresh pair of underwear.[:p]
Why would they be scared, when they play Grand Theft Auto and can out-run trains, cops and do all sorts of mayhem, if they die, they just restart or keep saving as they go and start over from the last saved.
Someone posted some links to an Australian LifeSaver Operations type video, pretty scary stuff. I hear about our own US Operation LifeSaver stuff on the forums, but I am yet to ever see a TV spot or a radio spot about it. Come to think about it, niether of the kids have ever mention a train type video in drivers ed or anything, only DARE program stuff.
I guess I always knew the dangers of trains since I was always a trainfan/model railroader and my grandfather worked for the railroad. I hate to see anyone get killed by such an accident, but natural selection is in effect even for us humans.
Talk about stupid things to do, I was in Alaska for vacation a week ago and while I was there a 13 year old boy was killed north of Anchorage. it seems that he and a friend had been fishing and decided to lay down and take a nap on the tracks. his 12 year old buddy escaped but the 13 year old was killed. I am very sorry he died and my heart goes out to his family and friends, but honestly… What was he thinking… he was a local boy he should know better. The railroad ran passenger trains every morning and evening. there are a hundred safer and more comfortable places to take a nap.

I kept telling my Dad that someday someone was going to get it,and sure enough!.
Just last Monday(08-01-05)Two teens bit the big one at the 12th Street Crossing here in Blair. I just kept telling my Dad that it was going to happen. The two teens got struck by an East bound UP Z-Train rolling through town. There where ok but there Truck was not so very lucky. They where very lucky to have lived. But their Truck was TRASHED. The Crossing has only Lights only. Allan.
