I am looking for some advice: I want to use some high dinesty Styrofoam for my benchwork top. I’ll been looking at 4x8x3/4" Blueboard. I cannot find anything else where I live but 3/4 thichness. That should be strong enought and hold up good should it. I’ve been out of the hobby for several years, and getting back into it again. Would appreicate any advice. Thanks David
Welcome to the forum. If you are not going to put any sort of bracing(plywood) under the foam, I would double up the thickness. This will give you more rigidity and also allow you to carve down into the foam to create below track contours. To find out everything you need to know on this and other subjects, try the search function. There are countless threads on this very subject. I believe there are a few current ones in the ‘Layout’ section as we speak. Good luck!
Corey: I have 4x8x1/2 cdx plywood on the benchwork. I also have braces build on the legs as well
You probably don’t need to double up, unless you want to be able to carve deep depressions. The 1.5" foam will work just fine.
