I was at the doctors office waiting and looking at a layout video on YouTube for Howard Zane’s Piermont Division - a beautiful layout in HO. In the first minutes I stopped the video and thought ‘Did I just see what I think I just saw?’
I scrolled back and sure enough at 1:40 you see this:
Nope I was already in the room waiting for the doc. It was just me. But some doctors offices are like libraries so I tried to not laugh too loud.
Yeah I’ve seen that one. It’s enormous. And I’ve seen several others that model flop houses in ghetto districts where there will be a nude figure in a hotel room or some such thing. The German company Noch makes a line of figures in questionable poses lol.
This particular billboard just tickled my funny …er… bone.
OK, I misunderstood as somehow everyone in the room saw it.
Yea, there are many layouts that have little scenes. The wife wouldn’t let me put any of the Noch figures on the layout, even though she got a good laugh when while looking at the various vendors at Trainfest, and pointed them out to her.
I don’t think they are allowed there any more, either.
As if the billboard weren’t odd enough, I just got an email from Model Railroader: the 1-23-20 newsletter showcases …wait for it… this exact layout. What are the odds? Must be something in the air or water…
As my northern England wife would say - “waaaaaayy, what’s this all a-boot!” LOL
Dr. Ruth would probably approve.
Yeah, I’ve seen the long youtube video’s of the German Wunderland layout. It had some “naughty” scenes in it. But truthfully, I’ve traveled to Germany 5 times for extended visits and spent some time there with locals and going to market and walking around parks etc. and it was clear Germans are not so prudish as Americans, with their puritan heritage. You see woman sun bathing, just as men would, without tops and it’s totally natural there and not considered indecent, at least in certain settings, like on a beach or in a large park. So it kinda wasn’t surpising that they had some “intimate” scenes or beach sun bathers with nawt on but their birthday suites on the Wunderland train layout. Preiser HO has a number of figures they sell, a German company, again no surprise. Their culture is a little less squeemish about such things and they take it all in stride.
WHY?? That billboard along the ‘‘Questionable figures’’ are part of the world we live in. Perhaps I’m mature enought ,that I hardly even notice, mutch less care enought to even comet on.
Well, it was obviously meant to be funny, since of course there is no such school. It’s a joke meant to bring a chuckle. Perhaps a bit dated at this point since Dr. Elders was Surgeon General over 25 years ago…so it’s kinda like the layouts built in the 1950’s with a “George’s Gorge” where the joke would be lost on later generations of people who were not around in the 50’s.
p.s. just to nitpick the OP, it’s technically not “subliminal”.
Remember we live in a land with a wide range of sensibilities. As Rodney King said, “can’t we all get along?”
Agreed. Subliminal means it’s something you don’t consciously percieve, but something unconscious but still may affect you at some level.
Back in Jr. High, might have been sociology, our teacher one day covered subliminal advertisements which were meant to cause us to remember a product by shocking our brain at a subliminal level. Examples include magazine adds with shapes or a word airbushed into ice cubes or other items that we wouldn’t notice what the represented consciously but our subconscious mind may pick them up, theoretically, and make us remember the product, and hopefully patronize the company product.
Uhm, this is an odd response to say the least. Can’t enjoy a simple laugh and model at the same time? Good grief. If you don’t care enough to comment on this, then why DID you comment on it?.. Get over yourself.
