Subways?

I am planning a new layout and have the room to incorporate a subway in the form of an open lower layer throughout the front.

Question being, considering my desire to keep it strictly Lionel post-war, would I just use standard passanger cars? What engine?

I would guess someone makes authentic subway trains with sliding doors, etc, but I really want to stay within the period.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

You may have a hard time finding Lionel with subway cars. MTH does have a large selection of subways.

Does anyone know where I can find STEPS that would carry the passengers from the upper level down to the subway platform? I need some steps for my layout. Thanks,
Dan

MTH has Subway Entrance’s if that is what you are looking for

click on ‘find it’ to see who has it on order.

Thanks, but actually, I need the steps that would be visible to the viewer at the the level of the lower platform, so in other words, they would be steps going up from that lower platform to the ceiling of that lower level.

I think you are going to have to make some. It shouldn’t be hard to do out of basal wood.

Thanks very much, needless to say, I am BTFA with that material.

Needless to say. BFTA?

actually - BTFA = Blown Away with emphatic embelishment. That stuff was fabulous.
