Phew! Took the plunge and pulled the stock Kato couplers from two locos, not without a little bit of nervousness. Especially when i
I had to cut the corners of the draft box. All in all, not a terrible chore. Now the Micro Trains couplers are doing fine! I’m new to the hobby and enjoying the learning curve. Converted one of the locos to DCC as well. More of a task, since “drop in” replacement is a very loose term. Shell shaving/sanding wasn’t in the decoder instructions. Thank goodness for youtube.
Chordpounder, that sounds like you’re doing well for being new to the hobby. I know what you mean about the nervousness, especially working on an expensive locomotive.
Yes, its all new to me since February. Never played with trains as a boy. Just saw some videos over the holidays and found them spellbinding. Its been fun to hand the Power Cab to my granddaughter. I’m not afraid of hands on, so working on the trains is ok. But with the bad eyes of an old guy, well, its been a challenge!
Whatever youtube doesn’t answer, you can certainly ask here. Coupler replacement is not always easy or fast. Glad it worked out.
YouTube is a great source of information for all kinds of hobbies. I know I like being able to pause and zoom in on while trying to see how something is done.
