Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can make the fascia in these two areas look okay? The upper portion is where the branch line terminates at the paper mill. The branch crosses over the main in this area. I had planned on putting a tunnel under the branch and then bring a rock face up to the upper level. My concern is that the fascia on the peninsula will be too wide (12 or more inches) and look out of place compared to the remainder of the layout’s fascia (4 to 6 inches). A trackplan is attached as well. Thank you.
My first reaction is not to assume that it would look wrong or strange or weird to have fascias of two considerably different heights near each other and meet. I think your eyes (and those of your visitors) would readily deal with it. After all 12" fascias look OK and 4 to 6 " fascias look ok. Get some cheap cardboard and green spray paint and dummy up a fascia, fastened with thumb tacks, and live with it for a few days. I bet it will look OK.
If the point of intersection is the problem maybe something distracting like a cupholder, or a cup for pencils, uncoupling tools and the like would do the trick.
Thanks for the replies. Big Jerr, that it doesn’t blend in is one of the concerns. Cuda Ken you are more than welcome to come over. Thanks for the compliments on the layout. Are you referring to the peninsula section?
Ken, it doesn’t snow here all the time! But there is always room in the igloo for a fellow model railroader! Wayne, that is some pretty high fascia you have there and a fine layout to boot. I guess I am just overanalyzing it too much. Thanks to all. Have a great long weekend.
