Suggestions? GR Collectibles

I have been asked to purchase a gift for our executive. All we know is that he is interested in g-gauge as he wants to build outside. He grew up in Chicago and we would like to give him something wonderful. Any recommendations on brand and engine to consider?

I would suggest an LGB item #23872 Union Pacific Mikado steam locomotive, with sound for $948.89, which you could purchase from St. Aubin, a dealer which I have found to be reliable.

Here is the website:

I believe this item would be appreciated by your executive.

Alternatively,If he does’nt like it,you could send it to me [:D][:D][:D]

How about this…

Bachmann’s Eureka & Palisades 4-4-0 with the prettiest paint job I haveseen yet on a LS locomotive. about $350 retail so not too bad pricewise and its one hell of an attention getter!

If its too much $ let us know what you were thinking and we can narrow the suggections down a bit.[8D]

I would recommend an LGB Starter set, it would cost a lot less than a Mikado and be more useful. I am not enamoured with Mikados, they seem to give more trouble when running because of there size and configuration and unless you have a mighty layout, you would not hav anywhere to run it. You woud also be amazed at how much guts they havent got. I will back my big DR Mallet against one any day.

I started with an LGB starter set I have added a few more carriages and a post office and it is a really good little fun train. I am considering getting a motorised tender to go with it increasing its power and providing much better sound.

Perhaps a building from Smith Pond Junction?
