The plan seems to have everything i would like to have in a 4x8 layout, and i would like to model the 1950s era with some of those same industries and businesses in the plan… However, i don’t particularly like the color scheme of the Central Vermont railroad, nor does there seem to be a lot of locos/cars, etc. available for that railroad. Anyone have any suggestions on what other railroads might fit this plan layout and era?
… this will be a challenge to build in 4X8 in HO, as the grades will be pretty steep. You indicated then that you were expanding the layout beyond 4X8, which would still be a good idea.
The original 1966 version of this plan (referenced in the earlier thread) was a vaguely western locale.
You can pick just about any railroad in the Northeast that you want. The layout can represent a brnach line of a larger railroad, or a shortline, or really whatever. The scenery design and the small towns fit more of a northeastern/new england area, without some serious changes it would be hard to make it midwestern or western.
It could be a B&M branch, or maybe a NYC branch in upstate NY, Maine Central, Rutland - lots of options.
Cuyama, i guess i should have not said 4x8…i am expanding it to 5x9 with 22" radii. I worked up the layout in xtrkcad, and i believe i can succeed in building it at this size.
