Just opened the windows in the train room , aw the first signs of summer in the air, as i watch my dash 8 slowly negotiating through the small towns i wonder if in the miniature world people are doing the same? i sometimes forget its only a model and the route its taking is imaginary , but living in a small town how often did i hear the distance rumble of a slow moving freight filling the summer nights air. i can see old Mr Houston sitting on his front porch and his nosy neighbor peering through her blinds. the ice cream truck stopped on the side of the road children eager to sample the latest flavors. yup its Summer time in a big way , but also in the smallest of satisfactions… happy Summer
I’m the opposite, most of my model railroading is done in fall and winter. I keep the train room curtain closed in the summer for AC reasons being most of the afternoon sun is aimed at that side of the house.
summer is here alright, finally had to turn ont he ac in the train room. 78 when I’m not there so I don’t have a killer electric bill. The nice days though do make it nice to sit outside and paint trucks and couplers.

Hey, don’t forget about Spring.
It’s been pretty nice here in the Chicago area since mid-March.
Golf has now superceded layout activities.
Rich
What’s golf?
I actually do just as much or more modeling in the summer. Summer is hot and humid here, my train room has few windows and good A/C. And my basement “wokshop” has A/C as well.
Spring time I do yardwork, summer I build models.

Hi,
On the other side of the fence, this morning’s Houston Chronicle says the Houston area’s year-to-date weather is the warmest yet. Last year’s heat and severe drought was not good for man nor beast nor plants nor prototype rails. This year could very well be a repeat.
To this life lone MR from Chicagoland, summer’s down here kind of relates to winters up north. As my layout is in a spare bedroom, its often the place to be in the summer - as opposed to sweltering outside.
Unless its raining out I spend most of my days outside. I’m a fall and winter modeller, I don’t do much in the spring and summer months. Gardening, golf and drag racing take up most of my free time.
It’s always summer in Moose Bay. The women wear skirts and the men are in T-shirts, at least those who aren’t forced into more uncomfortable “business” attire. Sure, some of the older residents are a bit more bundled up, but that’s their slowing metabolism, not the weather. AC in cars is stil pretty uncommon, so you’ll see convertibles with the top down, and cars with the windows rolled down, too. And Santa, after staking out a spot in front of the station for a few months, has gone back to the North Pole, not to be seen again until December.
If you’re quick, you might just catch a glimpse of a mermaid sunning herself on a rock just outside the Moose Bay Bridge…

Golf, like DCC, is a hobby enjoyed by thousands of thousands of people who have advanced beyond the Stone Age. [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D]
But, don’t they still use clubs?
Oh my gosh, you are right, Mr. B.
Maybe that’s where the term “mashie” originated.

SPRING is here in Canadaland, just put my snowblower away, now the snow shovels and check to see if the ground is still frozen. Time to get busy on train stuff.
Yeah, the summer is here and its quite warm out here.
Like TA462 I spend alot of time out doors gardening ( well kind of as Im not much of a gardener, so lets call it cleaning up,lol ) But there are days that It gets way too warm for my liking so I would rather be in the central air working on the layout.
Its very dry here also, so my grass already looks like hay and probably wont have to be cut anytime soon, I dont like to waste water on the lawn having to water ii alot.
Our cottage garden gets a lot of care during the early mornings around here…anything past 11am is usually a little too warm then.
My rr stuff is usually done more in the evening…when I’m not outdoors doing the pool thing at the neighbours…
I’m just the opposite…
I like to railfan and fish in the cool of the morning and when the sun is beating down and the temperature climes into the high 80s and into the 90s it’s modeling time under the coolness of the old A/C.[:P]
Trains take a back seat in the summer. Too many other (more important) demands on my time.[(-D]
In kitchen test drive of two room tent. The kids sleep outside in it the entire summer.
Brent[C):-)]
Like Rich, I have golf occupying most of my time right now. Haven’t touched the layout in a few weeks now.
Brent, isn’t that tent supposed to be outside? Isn’t that called roughin’ it?
Brent could build a shelf layout on the inside rim of that pool.
