A pic of my old layout (no longer exists):

Under the elevated line at night

Brutus bring your camera next time you are over, I would like to post some of my layout.
Playing with one of my “large gauge” locomotives today.

With all of those DVDs, when do you have time to run trains? [;)]

John
Very nice picture!

thanks John
when I was 1st thinking about how I wanted the layout to look this is one of the scenes I could picture.
Landscaping, Part II
Previously, I had started to landscape my layout. I did not like the results. I have gone back to the drawing board and tried again. I am still not getting the results I want, but I think I am on the right track. I would like to get everyone’s feedback.
First, here is what my “experimental” hill looked like:

This was the first attempt:

I thought the resulting hill looked to “mossy” and not very realistic. Here is what I have now:

You can also see that I have temporarily ballasted a small section to see if I like the look. I look forward to any feedback.
Thanks,
John
John,
That hill came out fine! I like it. You are getting the hang of this scenery stuff!
Good work!
Jim
Boredom overtook me this week, so I decided to detail a few things just to see how they would come out. Here’s a wooden fence I built out of coffee stirrers.

I wanted to try my hand at weathering some vehicles. I started with some $2.00 trucks from WalMart:

Before and afters on the trucks:

Then I repainted some kids for the playground. Still need to repaint the rest of the stuff in the photo:

Only one more thing to repaint today - the upstairs bathroom ceiling…I hate painting ceilings…
Jim
Fantastic on both parts! Thank you for the compliment, but everytime I see you do something, I feel talentless. Don’t worry, I will keep trying. I love that fence, especially the missing boards and the curled up poster.
Regards,
John
John,
I want you to know that the only way I ever accomplish anything is to just dive right in and start doing. And I make my share of mistakes and do-overs! All you need is a little more practice and a lot more confidence. The hill you showed today is great and your talents will only grow as you go along. Someday you will say, Jim, you told me so! YOU ARE WELL ON YOUR WAY!!!
Jim
Really nice pictures Guys. Jim the trucks look good I’ll have to try that. It rained last night , I’ll drive them in the mud that might work? Gary

Excellent photos this week fellas!
Love the scenery talk John and Jim… (John nice hill)
Gonna be a few from me this week as I have some catching up to do…
The first set are from my trip to see The Cumberland Extension.

I have an overview shot, but not sure Fife would want that posted… if he says OK I’ll post it, if not, then it has to remain a secret… [:-^]
This is what I picked up at the LHS on Thursday. Its the Chessie Diesel Freight set from 2006. I had been looking for this set for over a year, and apparently I had mentioned this to the LHS owner the last time I had been in (over a year ago). Seems he picked one up for me and lost my number, he said that if I hadn’t come in in the next few weeks he was going to take it home. LOL!!! Told him when I get closer to having the layout completed he’ll have to come over and check her out!

John,
Thanks for the “work in progress” pictures. GREAT JOB! Nice switcher too.
The last 2 pics looks like the brakeman is making his rounds! LOL!
Please post more!
