Layout construction winding down and we will be emerging from the man cave in anticipation of spring? First though I will have to see my shadow  Here is a photo of the most finished half. Mostly scenery and backdrops this yr.

Thanks for your contributions Jim and Bill. Things look great in both of your worlds. Jim is that a photo from the old layout or are you doing some dioramas for us?

Last weekend I was at a train show in Madison Wisconsin; one of two that I attend each year. I came across pieces of a Prewar Flyer accessory. The 2230/4230 Roadside Flashing Signal is a very difficult piece to find in any kind of complete condition. It was cataloged from 1928 through 1935. It suffers from deterioration and is rarely in one piece. It has a blinking signal on the top, which is reproduced. The body of the casting frequently warps beyond being usable. I managed to find the two bottom pieces of the casting.

The two halves of the bottom casting are warped and I doubt that I could get them to hold together to support the top light portions, but I thought I could use them anyway as a welcome sign into town.

The message portion of the signal is very colorful and seems appropriate to welcome folks coming into this part of town.

I wish that MTH or someone would reproduce this accessory.

Thanks Greg, those pctures are a diarama. I painted a sky and applied some photoshopped pictures glued to foamboard for the background, and use a greeen bathtowel for the grass. I miss the layout, but hopefully come spring we can start a layout in the basement!

I REALLY enjoy you sharing your your prewar collection and pictures

Jim

Baby Buckeye and Big Boy was at the house yesterday working on the rock wall.

Starting out we looked like this:

And now we look like this:

Tunnel Portal in place and landscaping continues in and around.

All looking great!

Buckeye may be contacting you for help via email/phone in a few months or so as I’m now have all trains packed away so I can take shelves down and fill holes and paint so I can finally start on a layout. First doing a round the room shelf layout for the standard gauge set just above windows and door hight. Then comes the main layout.

Thanks guys for your contributions…they all look great.
Dennis

Great work guys !

Buckeye, Do you loan out your scenery specialists ? [swg]

Friday’s motive power…

The crazy weather patterns that led to over 22 inches falling in Northeastern Pennsylvania this past week also meant detouring a lot of trains. Look what turned up at my village railroad as a result… You guessed it. The snowbound Polar Express with stunned train crew couldn’t figure out why it was so green all of a sudden! This boy and girl were preparing to use their robe-belts to fasten themselves when the train crossed the frozen lake. But there’s no lake! Nothing frozen! So this is the hobo hangout… Train order change, fellas, back north we go! … and I heard Santa say as we rolled out of sight… "Hey, everyone! It’s 25 cent Buffalo Wing Night! Come back! They even have gravy on their French Fries at this diner. I’m moving the north pole to Scranton! I plan for this to be my final winter tale. Spring begins in 21 days.

Thanks for taking the time to post some pics, folks. Turn out has been kinda sparse past few weeks, but your efforts are appreciated.

Phish - Thanks for starting things.

wsdimenna - A) Those streetlamps really do add to the landscape. B) If that set of Fs is the MTH DAP NS units, I’m jealous.

thanks gys

Those streetlamps on right I believe are K-line from a few yrs agos. And yes that is the MTH DAP NS set. As a modern era modeler I try to take advantage of that kind of thing, F7’s in modern era.

Bill D

wsdimenna - The price tag on that DAP set was out of reach. Hopefully, MTH will produce a set in the more family friendly RAILKING SCALE.
