Freedom Isn’t always Free!

Thanks Timboy. Our AF layout is the largest in the U.S. which would also make it the largest in the world. It is over 1,700 sq ft. All the layout have been expanded when we moved last November. I can’t wait for the O gauge layout to have all the bench work done and track laid.

Over the last few weeks I have been preparing the Northwoods Flyer Collection to be on display for the layout tours at the end of the Milwaukee Road Historical Society convention here in Wausau in June. I’ve had months to get everything done, but of course as in most of my endeavours it all happens in the last few minutes. I purchased some additional shelving from Ray Snyder and finally got them up only to discover that I can’t display everything. I thought I would post some pictures of the installation process.

Making sure that the first shelf is in place and level works best for me.

Aluminum cans set the distance well for O gauge. No laz, no Old Mil cans were used. I did want the shelves to be level. [;)]

I repeated the process for each shelf.

Greg,

Great looking shelves!

My AF “collection” is now complete, mainly because I have run out of shelf space!

The first 6 items I bought because they are the same or similar to pieces in the AF set I owned as a child.

The Reading Atlantic

MKT boxcar (Not quite the same as my old one, mine was all yellow.)

the 640 hopper

the Gulf tank car

the 631 gondola

The ubiquitous Reading caboose.

These additional 3 pieces I obtained simply because I liked how they looked, and they fit my budget.

I suspect that I had better be deleting my Ebay account now. Either that or I’ll be adding a third shelf!

Great photos guys !

No new ones from friday, all of us forgot our cameras. So I thought I would dig into the archives for some of the “Oops” moments. [:I]

And how many of these were caused by “Rule G” violations?

Great photos everyone. Thanks for all the Memorial Day scenes. NF: Those are great looking shelves, especially the collection gracing them. Doug: I’m hoping those “oops” moments were staged. If not, maybe “The Force” can restore them. Our layout proceedings were slow this week as we are still placing the track. However, we were able to capture a PA Freight Flyer heading for an ambush. I’m not sure how this train ended up in a war zone (our layout) hauling troops. My son insisted on having the flag in the smoke stack. Hopefully this firepower will help out. Have a great Memorial Day and remember our fallen heroes. Joe

I’ll second the great layouts you have going at www.wrmrm.org. Haven’t seen the new digs yet

This is from backside (underfinished) of wye valley.

Have you really looked at your Gulf Tank car? It is one of the first ones made because it has the Shell markings SEPX. Way Cool!
