I received a different bubbling water tower and put it on the layout. Which do you think looks better, the red one or the checker board one?

If your going for the more realistic presentation, the checkardboard one. The red is more toy like.
Why not find a spot for both? I think they are both great.

I’ve always liked both of the water towers, and when I had my s gauge set up and running I always put both of them on display. If there is 6 square inches to spare I’d keep them both up. Most towns could use more water anyway. The layout looks great as always.
One of my favorite railroad artists is Griff Teller. He did much of the calendar art for the Pennsylvania Railroad during the 1930’s - 1950’s. My dad always brought those calendars home. When we cleaned out my partents’ home I discovered about 10 of the calendars rolled up in the attic. I have several of them framed now and hanging in the train room and my office. Here is a poor attempt to pay honor to his work. He has a well known painting from the '30’s entitled, “Challengers of Time and Space”

If only one, then checkered. Otherwise, I’d agree with Mitchelr and Northwoods Flyer and try to use both water towers. My passion is for the prewar stuff, but when the TCA offered a Ben and Jerry’s car for this year’s TCA convention in VT, I couldn’t resist. I’ve got nothing to pull it, but I still love it. I’ll be keeping it in my office.

Jim, the checker sided water tower is one of my Flyer favorites. Both are nice towers and honestly for whatever reason the red one looks better in that spot. Is there any way to fit the checker sided tower somewhere else? IMHO every AF layout should have the checkered version…

As promised, and yes I know I’m a day late, here are some pics of WW II aircraft on patrol over the layout. It was tough to photograph as that’s a very dark corner of the layout thus I had to use the flash, not what I like to do.

Here is my 1/48 scale P-47 Thunderbolt"Razorback’ that is motorized.Not only does the prop spin but the arm rotates the plane. I utilized a Powerwheels 6 volt motor and gear box to rotate the heavy diecast plane.
