Here’s the newest member to the family…a prewar Lionel 238e with a 265w tender…
Started a (small) layout - finally!
track and roadbed down (all original Marx track and switch!):
scenery mock-ups and temporary buildings:
test photos:
I’ll be using this small layout to test scenery methods and scratchbuilding in anticipation of an eventual big layout - I was going to go pure “tinplate” but I’ve got some other ideas in mind now…
You guys have some nice stuff, thanks for sharing! I especially love that bridge, Jim! It’s very bright and clean looking!
Nice pictures gentlemen. I like the looks of your layout JamesPH. I decided to follow envfocus’s lead and post some pictures of the newest addition.
This is an American Flyer 423 from 1939. I am fairly certain that someone has made some alterations to it along the way. The number under the window is punched in with number dies, there is a brass plate at the boiler front, which should be a decal or a rubber stamp, and the headlight ring and smoke stack are not standard Flyer issue. She runs well and looks great running down the track. For the picture I have the engine matched up with a tender that it did not come with.
Have a great holiday weekend,
Northwoods Flyer
Friday at the museum was predominantly a “Steamer Day” :
First off is a K-Line NYC Hudson,
Next up is big steam, D&H and No. Pac. Challengers,
Apparently the high fuel prices are also having an impact on the folks in Hollywood as well, look who we found waiting for the train instead of taking a limo,

DOUG, very nice. Is that K-Line Hudson scale? It is nice! My friend has the semi scale and runs great.
laz57
Laz, The K-Line isn’t part of my stable, it belongs to the other club member who was running on friday. I’m not sure but I believe it is the semi-scale version. My steamer was the D&H Challenger with 25 woodside reefers on the lower level, my alternate consist was a MTH Southern FM with 14 K-Line die-cast 4bay hoppers
Here are a few pics of the maintenance area of my layout.

Here is my brass hand made water spout.
Andre.
Sorry I’m late guys and gals! Been busy working this fine Labor Day weekend. Ilike your maintenance facility Bob!
Here’s a few shots of the crossing signals I’ve been arranging seeing what fits where:
Thanks for looking,
J White
Well…I wanted to run outdoors so today I did!
Kurt
Nice photos again this weekend. Andre, I really like your spout.
I have been unable to post photos this weekend. Shutterfly has changed their format for viewing photos. Anybody else have any ideas on how to get around it?
Kurt…I can’t wait to see that layout run in Michigan Snow. http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w79/pfoh/?action=view¤t=Snowtrain2007_0001.flv
Buckeye: Shutterfly redirected me to their new remote storage loaction automatically. If it’s not doing it write customer service.
Kurt
Kurt - [tup][tup] Great, love it!
Buckeye - it already snowed in Snowhio? I thought Chief was going to keep us posted. Or is that from a grits raid?
Great stuff, guys!
I think I can post a photo from the web page they made for me.
Andre,
That brass water spout is a nice piece of work!
Andre: Great work! I thought that was copper you petina’d. Did you use copper paint?
Kurt
Kpolak,
Surely you don’t leave that set up that way all the time, do you? Wouldn’t the Fastrack rust?
George
No, It’s not set up all the time. I will plan on an a more elaborate ‘temporary’ layout, and construct outdoor permanent buildings, so I can install the track in the morning, and run trains in the afternoon for parties! Fastrack doesnt take long to install, especially if it has a plan, and electrical connections in place. The bottom of the track is sealed from the mulch, I worry less about debris getting stuck in the underworkings of the engine and cars.
Kurt
PS Pease stop calling me surely…[swg]
