Sunday Photo Fun - 1/9/05

Well, It’s been a long time since we had one of these. Come on, show us some pictures of what you did this weekend. Here are mine:

I did most of the rest of the ground foam except for a small strip in the back and a patch that I keep forgetting to do that is right by the mountain, but the grain elevator blocks its view. On that note, the grain elevator is not instaled, just sitting there, looking pretty and making room on my workbench for my rolling mill.

Here’s one of my modern freight cars from when I was a “modern guy”.

This was the first serious weathering job I’ve ever done. Its from a few years ago when I was a newbie to model weathering. Sweet.

I finailly got something done this weekend. I got the mountain done, minus the trees.

Dave

Edit: the bare trees are only there for ideas. I plan to cover the mountain with
pines. Dave

Here’s one from the defunct Gaylor Mountain Lines.

Dave, what did you use to create your mountain? foam, hard-shell? Either way, it looks great.
Reed

Thanks Reed,
I use plaster and plaster cloth over newspaper wads. Then when it dries, I color the whole thing
with a wash of diluted Earth Undercoat. Then apply the ground foam, talus, and fine ballast.
I also mix in some Earth Undercoat with Scenic Cement so when I spray the mountain, it takes
some of the green color out. Even the Blended Turf is a little too green for my liking. Mixing the
paint in with the cement also helps give the talus a duller, more natural look.

I now have to make lots of trees. I got some good ideas from Rex (rexhea) and Aggro. If they
don’t mind me stealing their technics[8D]. Dave

Here’s an On30 Bachmann 0-4-2 Porter on which I just completed adding a “gypsy engine” on the front. It’s a kit from Backwood Minatures. Lotsa fun!

Sweet. Did you use Bragdon Enterprise powders at any point on that thing? Looks like it.

Here’s a pic of my HO fleet:

Sure did, the first time I’ve used them, they seem to work real great. Here’s the Bachmann Climax I did at the same time:
