With picking up more of the 19th century log cars from IR, we thought we word do a little comparison of them with the MTH one.
The first car is MTH and the others are IR.

Tom, On one of your “Photo Fun” postings you had your auto cars out 'n about, I just picked up several of the MTH double decker auto carriers and I kinda wonder about running them. You open the box and the first thing you see is a warning about tipping over. Do you operate any and if so any problems ? Should have thought of that before I bought them. Just love the 57 Bel-Aires and Nomads.
Hi Doug,
All of mine are flat cars. I leave the tie on them, which helps to keep them in place.
Some of the cars (like the K-line ones) don’t have the bands on them. I can say, that I have never had a car fall the trains car as it was running.

It’s always a joy to watch your layout pictures, Tom. I also have the K-line flatcar with mustangs, the car has “dents” which keeps the mustangs in place…
My concern isn’t so much the cars falling off, elastic bands hold’em, it is the possibility of the train car tipping on tight curves. The center of gravity is very high on these cars, probably would have been much better had the flat bed portion been die-cast as opposed to ABS. More weight with die-cast. Oh well, if they don’t get run much they would still look WAY COOL just sitting on a siding.[8D]
Guess where I’ve been?

It’s so easy with dry wall screws.
I built it in the basement, took it apart, carried it upstairs and put it back together.

Progress, the joists are added Pre-drilled holes so as not to split 1 x 2s.
Continuing work, ballesting, painting tunnel portals, installed a lower shelf to hold cars, and a myriad of other things. Now to start a massive reforestation project, plus add weeds, rocks, water the like. Lots of work, keep me busy thru the winter. BILL
Looks great. Now to get my lazy butt to work on mine. [;)]
