Scenery anybody…?
North Pole Village update…
I’m about 90% done on the styrofoam forms. Biggest challenge was fabricating the two access “drawers”, for plugging in all those Happy Little Elf lodgings…
Sunday came and went, but I finally watched the vid fife- Looking at all that white “frosting” going up onto the rock face, I was thinking “there’s no way this is going to look that convincing, right?”
And then, a few washes later, BAM! Whadayaknow, it looks fantastic!
Here’s my late contribution- got a cold on Sunday, working on the recovery. I was running my Santa Fe Burro crane the other day, and a thought found its way into my head, “wouldn’t it be cool if they made a little mini version for HO?”
My favorite thing these days really has become having the little “baby” versions of my ‘full size’ trains.
Now, I haven’t properly taken up drawing since junior or senior year of high school, but now and then I’ve tried to make do with my rusty artistic skills. Today was the first time in a good while I tried to seriously draw anything, but I was working from reference. My goal? Illustrate a “what if” scenario, of an HO scale Burro crane.
My first thought was that Lionel would probably not even make an effort to scale down the Burro’s unique clutch system which provided motor-driven functions. Secondly, the wheel base for Lionel’s “husky” does remind me a fair bit of the wheel base of a Burro. The solution seemed to be: start with a Husky chassis, and design an entirely manual Burro crane setup that locates on the chassis the same way a Husky shell does.
I did my best to come up with a design that captured the look of the Burro, while also making it possible to rotate the cab 360 degrees, and raise and lower the boom and the ‘hook’.
here’s my sketch:
Do excuse the crude handwriting! I want to keep
Ellie - Very creative. Cool sketch.
Cool! [:D][tup]
