M1a meets I1a.

grate photos, love the the burned building

Been detailing my street scene. This is located in the city portion at the outer edge of the layout. The sidewalks are modeled but just the edge of the street. Been slowly adding details and lighting to the interiors as well. I’ve been inspired by Ray’s photos.

Bought a new toy this week that I’ve been wanting for a while. A labelmaker. With the rebate it was about half price. As I get older I can’t remember what switch works what. Should make it more user friendly for future planned opperatting sessions. I managed to get my new breakers done this morning.

First scratch built boxcar…

Recently weathered water tower(done with weathering powder, acrylic paint, and a little inspiration form the Scenery Forum at OGR)

Alex, Looks good. If you were to make another one I wonder what it would look like done in one of the exotic woods. Zebrawood, bubinga, rosewood and as many times as I have been bitten by my power tools I would have to consider bloodwood. [:o)] [B)]

Dave’s photo of the Ted’s Root Beer sign on his structure made me want to post our version. What New England layout would be complete without one?

Jim

Neat pictures.

Doug, don’t forget to use a filter respirator when cutting and sanding as bloodwood dust is very harmful.

37 Fleetwood posted a nice request message titled “My First Train”

This caused me to get going, photograph it and post it on this thread as well.

My first train purchased when I was less than two (“for the family” but actually by-my-dad for- my-dad) was this Illinois Central F3 2363 and freight set. It is the best running outfit I have, and has endured more drops, wrecks and repairs than anyone would believe. It’s valued at $50,000 dollars. No one of course would pay that much for it, but that’s about what it means to me.

Here’s ours. Considering though, that there are three Bronx items in these photos, it’s surprising that no one’s thrown eggs at that billboard yet. [;)]

no pics but a link to the video of my MTH East Wind

Thanks, Jack! No, nothing much has gone on with the layout lately (well, except for some new signage, but I know you were talking about the track area.) I’ve got to get that finished yet. But, to answer your other question, the Jahn’s ice cream parlour (as well as all the buildings) is from MTH. It existed on Kingsbridge Road, I think, and it was the traditional place to go in 8th grade after taking the High School entrance exam. The other items I was referring to are the #6 Pelham Bay Park subway line, and the lighted billboard advertising Freedomland. It was only open for about 5 years, was larger than Disneyland, and closed around the time of the 1964 World’s Fair in Queens, NY. I can remember seeing the old sign for it as we drove on the highway it was next to (seen on the sign), but I was only around 4 when it closed, and though we lived 10 minutes away, I’m not sure if we ever went. I have to ask my Dad. Here’s a closeup photo, and a link to Wikpedia’s entry on it - interesting stuff for historic amusement park buffs.

Another Teds root beer! Also, my first locomotive.
