Sunday Photo Fun 4/9/05

Welcome to Sunday Photo Fun.

Lionel Lines Leaving Tucson Yard

Scott Smith

Here’s one of my recent Christmas layouts, where I had to block out the messy coffee table in the foreground.
Although not too clear in this shot, direct yourself to the lake in the background.
Seems that a deer got loose in the city, running down the middle of the street. A Wabash crew bus swerved to miss the deer, knocked over a streetlight, and and crashed onto it’s side in the lake, turning over a rowboat. Note the dead guy floating in lake, while another stands on top of the overturned boat, and is assiting a 3rd guy out of the water.

This is what I go thru when the derailment is in the back of my Christmas floor layout. Don’t try this after too many of the Iron Citys! [:)]

Hello Waltrapp:

Looks like it’s Christmas year around at your place. I like that.

Nice pictures 'grump and cool signals too!

Wabash, Love that GEEP, I’ve had mine since the late 50’s. I don’t run it very often, generally it sits on the display shelves, just as pretty as the day I received it. [^]

For those who have a fairly fast connection, a oldy but goody video

Thanks Doug, My Grandfather bought that Wabash GP-7 new when it first came out, back in 57 or 58 as a replacement for the set’s steam engine that broke down. My Dad had it for years, and now it’s in my hands. Amazingly, it’s completely original, and never need any replacement parts. A little grease and oil is all I’ve ever had to do to it. It only runs at Christmas time, so maybe it’ll last another 50 years…

Some nice pictures, Doug. That looks like the San Diego Model RR Club layout in Balboa Park (a great place to visit).

Great Pictures People, I know I say it every week but thanks for making my day a whole lot better. Kind Regards to all & have a safe week Steve

You’re right Mac, I am a member of the San Diego 3-Railers and run almost every friday and sometimes any other day that there might not be enough volunteers to run. One of the best investments I ever made was joining the 3-Railers. In my wildest dreams I would never have imagined a layout of my own like this to run on.

Since we’re still two months away from moving into a new house, there has been no opportunity to work on the layout. It is still just plywood, and it will remain so until we get to the new place.

In the meantime, I’ve had to find something to do to keep busy. This weekend I managed to get a pair of Rio Grande SD-50s to work as a lashup (they were a sketchy eBay purchase back in February), and took my first crack at weathering some rolling stock.

To top it all off, I freelanced the first freight car for the Grand Lake, Alta, and Truckee, which I am developing as an independent western road serving mountain communities.

I took a Weaver Penn Central 4-bay ACF hopper and repainted it, then added custom decals I made using a laser printer. The decals work well, though the film is a little thicker than I would like. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have a good week!
