An early start for photos for me…click to enlarge…

This past week I installed a PS2 upgrade kit into George W’s Proto1 C&NW Streamlined Hudson. It is a tedious install, but well worth it in the end. We were happy to get this guy back out on the main line using DCS! One of the mods is to parallel the heating resistors in the smoke unit and boy does it smoke. Photos do not completely capture the effect!

This is a pretty elegant paint scheme on this C&NW passenger train set. You have to see it to appreciate it fully.

Some yard shots…busy day! Lot’s of freight waiting to move!

And off into the twilight!

Have a great weekend all!
Roy

Roy–

Thank You! Those are wonderful pic’s, would love to see those in person. Any guess as to how many hours you spent on the upgrade? Very impressive!

Jon

Jon,

Thanks for your kind comments. The mods took about 7 hours, working slow and meticulously, check and recheck, etc., to ensure I did not blow the new circuitry (a lot of wires to keep track of, route, and/or trim to fit). I had to modify the tender connector board that goes in the engine as it would not fit due to the frame being narrower than some circuitry on the PCB (took about an hour to figure out). One hour was spent trouble shooting a pesky short in the wiring to the AC feed to the constant lighting board. I also had trouble getting my laptop PC (USB2 to RS-232 serial converter issue) to download the sound files and ended up using my desktop machine (which has an RS-232 port).

I have bought another kit to do my Proto1 NYC Hudson.

Regards,
Roy

An early start for me also, does that mean I can sleep late tomorrow…
Container trains at the crossing.

I am sure everyone knows about the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake.

Not so well known is the LBG Scorpion.

With the popularity of outdoor model railroading, more and more garden railroaders are discovering the LBG Scorpion. It lives under rocks and timbers used for landscaping the railroad. Scorpions can be a nuisance because they have a penchant to sting when disturbed. While its large size can be alarming, fortunately, the sting of the LBG Scorpion is not considered deadly.

Great shots guys. Bob Nelson has been guiding me through controling the voltage to a smoke unit I am installing in an MTH dummy. Without lowering the voltage [18 V from transformer for DCS/TMCC], I was afraid it would burn out the unit. Here is what we came up with:

Added pickups to the unit earlier:

Added lights [including ditch lights]:

Now to mount the smoke unit in the right place to fit under the exhaust in the shell.

A nice hot day to spend at the swimmin hole.

Great pics yuz giz! (got that from Laz)

Here’s a little Marx action -

Hey Spankybird,
Is that the new Lionel Berkshire that just came out with the Chessie passenger cars?
That’s what I’m asking Santa to bring me this Christmas.

Cheers,
Carl T.

Roy, your engine is stunning! I’m not so into steamers, but this one is a great one. I would love to have one of those real cab’s scottsmith, I would know someplace in the backgarden to combine it with a barbeque in the bonnet. (But I think it’s too big…)

Nice pictures!! I’ll submit some pictures too, soon, when I plastered my landscape… It’s now a mess of meshwire and wood.

This is an MTH PS2 RailKing engine that is about 3 years old.[;)]

It works. MTH NS Dash 8 dummy. Was a “Plain Jane”. Now it has stripes, decals, lights and smoke.
