Someone started doing this a month or so ago and I have not seen it since. I thought it was a great idea. So, here’s my project completed for the weekend. Installing a decoder in this athrean F7 and then weathering it.
Comon’ folks show us what you worked on this weekend [:)]
I finally got started yesterday. I should say I got false started. Got my son’s Hogwart Express to track well, but if it crosses a turnout from the frog side, it loses the front truck. He’ll have to learn.
I had to take the 4x8 table down and redo at 4.5 x 8. Although I could make do with table top 4x8 plywood, I only had one sheet for the cookie cutting. I need a second one and that is why you see the plywood covering half the foam. I also had trouble with the flex part of the track. I hadn’t expected the rails to be uneven. I have to send away for an emergency rail cutter. Anyway, at least it is forward progress.
Guess I’ll join in too.
The photo below is of my BRVRR F7 #1116. An Athearn body on an MRC chassis with a Lenz LE1000W decoder for motor control and lights. It is currently the only ‘house’ loco on the layout and the only one that doesn’t look showroom new. I weathered it using artist’s chalks and Dullcoat. Although you might not be able to see him, there is an engineer in there.
There are more photos of my layout, locos and rolling stock on my web site.
Keep up the good work guys. This type of thread is always inspiring.
Here is a picture of some of the trees I have completed. I still have a lot more to do. 75% of the trees visible in this pic are made with the ground foam I made myself.
Here is a picture of my scratchbuilding project sitting outside the carshop. The railings were just fabricated and installed. The boss does not look too happy as this engine should have been in paint by now. Heads are going to roll.
Hey danno I also completeda C&O engine this week. I had a couple of old Athearns lying around and decided to do this! This loco will be sitting in the display case.

I added grabs, and sunshades. I still have to add plow, horns, and give it a number(have to find one first!).
