Sunken 30" Locomotive in the Sierras

Im doing research on the small rail line that was used top build the Butt Valley Reservoir Dam. Back in 1997, a small Porter Locomotive was discovered when the lake was drained. Im searching for any information about this project. The site is just south of Lake Almanor, which runs right along the High Line.
The site is also in Plumas Co.

Not much to offer yet but I’m still looking. The dam was completed in 1924 and is owned by PAC Gas and Electric Co. More as time allows.

The “sunken Locomotive” was originally from the Empire Mill here in Nevada. I believe it now resides in Chester CA. You can find out more about the locomotive by contacting the Feather River Rail Society (Portola Railroad Museum) in Portola, CA. Off hand I do not remember their e-mail address. but I may be able to get it by contacting Norm Holmes, former head of, and one of ther founding fathers of the museum.
