Just won a Sunset Prestige steam loco and was wondering what have been your experiences good or bad about them? This is my second brass loco purchase. I hope it was worth it.
Thanks
Pete

Sunset has a good rep. You should have a sweet-running and good looking loco…
Thank you for the reply. This win was a total shock to me. The day before one exactly like it but unpainted sold for twice what I bid. This loco looks factory painted or professionally painted. I guess I am still in shock. With the price of what I paid I can instal a sound decoder and large speaker and still be under MSRP for a like plastic loco. If it runs half as good as my brass 0-6-0 I will be in heaven. This is my second brass loco and I always thought they were too expensive for me. It seems a little patience is all that is required.

I’ve got a Sunset Prestige HOn3 C-16 - out of the four brass models I’ve worked on, this was the only one that didn’t have to have any part of the mechanism upgraded/reworked. Sounds like you’ve been lucky.
I’m a little unclear what “Prestige” means as far as Sunset locos, but I can say that the four Sunset lokies I’ve purchased have turned out to be quiet, smooth runners and pretty trouble-free. I needed to put additional weight in one (an SP AC-6 4-8-8-2), but that’s kind of Standard Operational Procedure with a lot of my brass locos, so it was no big deal.
But no complaints about the quality of Sunset locos from this end.

I believe it is the Sunset line that cost a little less and has fewer details added on.
I finally received it today. There is only one word to describe it. WOW!!! Large can motor equipped and runs silent and slow. Sprung drivers and great paint job. The tender is huge and already drilled for a large speaker. It is not as heavy as I would like but not to worry. I can stuff lead in places that can bring it up to par. It is not as detailed as high priced brass but better detailed than my BLI plastic one that cost twice as much. I figure another $120 for a Tsunami and speaker with a cam and a couple hours work. It still is over $100 less expensive than plastic. Pictures will come when the decoder is in progress.
