super jet ca for structures

Is there a problem with using SuperJet CA for putting together structure kits? As a kid, I used to use Testor’s for model planes, etc. and the SuperJet is about 6 times as expensive than a tube of Testor’s. I’m about to put together my very first HO structure kit and I’m curious what the best adhesive is.

It really depends on the kit. I use liquid Testors for most of my structure kits, and it works pretty well. It’s important to remember that Testors will join plastic to plastic, but it won’t do much else. In particular, it won’t join painted plastic to much of anything, so you want to either glue before painting, or scrape off enough paint on the mating surfaces that you can get a solid bond. (Personally, I prefer to paint before assembly. It’s easier to get good clean lines that way.)

Sometimes I use CA, too. I find that the corner joints on structures don’t hold well with plastic cement. Also, when I have an attachment which has a very small point of contact, like putting the feet of a figure on a stairway, for example, it’s best to use a stronger bonding agent.
