The January issue of Popular Mechanics, just arrived, and has a terrific article on the rebirth of rail. Super Trains that will be computer controlled, GPS guided, ultra-energy efficient. These locos are being built in Erie, PA. They will consume at least 200,000 less gallons of fuel in their lifetime. It uses a first of it’s kind air to air cooling system that helps the engine burn more cleanly.
Too much info to list here, pick up a copy and check it out, the cover has the featured locomotive on it, so you can’t miss it on the mag rack.
thats good, maybe one day we ll get around to using biodiesal like the original diesal engine was designed for.
Maybe they’re talking about the Green Goat, which was featured in the January 2006 issue of Model Railroader magazine?
Maybe they’ll eventually send electricity through the tracks and operate individual trains like model railroaders do with DCC.[:D] That would REALLY cut back on fuel costs! But then the price of electricty would go up and it would be cheaper to use fuel.
Built in Erie, PA? Them’s be GEVOs.
