i spent this miserable, rainy day chasing Providence & WorcesterNR2 from plainfeild to new london. there was a very rare sight on this train today, one of only 2 b23s-7 (b23-7R?)locomotives owned by the P&W, and it was running long hood forewards, which almost never happens because of the push-pull setup. i think i have the entire run of NR2 worked out.
sorts cars in plainfeild
switches tilcon in groton
leaves ortner hoppers on the norwich branch so it can fit in new london yard
interchanges with NECR in new london
switches tilcon in old saybrook
intrerchanges with NH1 (P&W train from new haven)in old saybrook
picks up ortner hoppers left on the norwich branch and returns to plainfeild
theres also a local from plainfeild that switches the industries as far as groton
a little bit of selective compression and thats a great layout!
does any manufacturer make a decent version of the super7? if not, is there any simple way to kitbash one?
Thanks

No & No…I tried a few years back to recreate the Monongahela RR Super 7s but it was quite involved and I’d never undertake a project like that again only because I am patience-challenged.
A starting point would be waiting for one of the new Atlas B-23s with Blomberg trucks available early next year. It should be a fairly simple upgrade to the Super 7s.
thanks for the link.
i guess starting with the origional locomotives chassi and trucks would be a good start. then cut up a dash 8 body shell, using styrene for the sloped roof, and details west/detail associates parts for the radiatior vents, and PRAYING that the new body fits over the chassi. what did you use as a starting point? id assume just a dash 8? i should probably mention this is for HO scale.

I used a B23-7 shell from Rail Power like these:
eBay: TWO RAIL POWER PROD. B23-7 SHELLS (item 250021774307 end time Aug-29-06 20:25:26 PDT)
and various parts from a Rail Power Dash 8 shell…and Blomberg trucks from an Athearn F7. It’s been so long, I forget where I got the chassis and motor.
Interesting they were both running LHF on the same train…I’ve got them one on either end before and side by side, a few LHF, etc., in my slide collection… but not both LHF together…
Today was a lousey day…I was in Old Saybrook yesterday ontime to see NH-1…stopped by Plainfield too early to see NR-3 or NR-2 come back so I went home…other stuff to do.
The other train on the Norwich branch which is a local is NR-3…
And nope, no models as of yet, tho they would be nice…there are quite a few differences between the Super’s and the -8’s… notice the slope of where the DB housing it?
i think you misunderstood me about the long hood foreward situation. all the locos were pointing the same direction, so on the return trip, the super7 would have been LHF. yes, it some explaining before my dad(non-railfan) understood the difference. (he doesnt know a dash 9 from an S1)i also noticed that theres no vents under the gullwing radaitors. on the dash 8s, theres a foot or 2 of space between the end of the hood and the radiators. it looks like less on the super7s. i concider myself very luckey to railfan a train that has the B23-7A(cabless) and Super7s on it. i like the look of the Rail power shells, but im not about to cut up my atlas dash 8. at first i thought these locomotives were kind of ugly, but then i heard how rare they are, and they do make an interesting model. i sent an email to athearn asking about the RPP shels for the super7s, but no response yet. im concidering joining a local club. would it be concidered outside the boundries of train club etiquet(spelling?) to ask another member for help with such a kitbash?
thanks
