The Championships are decided. Philly won it going away this early afternoon. But if you have been following, Philly is only good NFC team. Eagles are tough, but can they handle the New England Patriots, the reigning Champs. New England dominated a very good Pittsburgh team, creamed the colts last week, will also be tough.
I know, I know, this is w-a-a-a-y off topic and probably shouldn’t be here. However, since it’s mostly harmless, I can’t resist just this once, especially since I’ve been a Pats fan since probably before birth (my dad was an usher at Schafer/Sullivan/Foxboro Stadium for over 15 years starting on day one, 4 years before I was born…).
PennsyHoosier, how can you say that the Pats are the most boring team in NFL history? They beat the highly touted Rams in 2002 in the biggest upset in Super Bowl history on a last second field goal, and they beat the Panthers last year in a game that was at first a nerve racking defensive battle then later an edge-of-your-seat offfensive explosion. They also beat the Raiders in the Snow Bowl with possibly the two most difficult field goal attempts in playoff history. This month they just held the most prolific offense in the NFL (the Colts) to only 3 points, and just put 41 on the best defense (the Steelers) in the league. What is boring about that?
Unless, you mean the negative, Randy Moss-like hijinks that other teams are famous for. I guess in that case, you’ve be right, the Pats are pretty boring. They are the best T-E-A-M in professional US sports, where no one person is more important than the team itself. In other places, it’s mere lip service. In Foxboro, it’s for real.
Paul you said it. Patriots have class. No superstars with big egos. No antics. Just class. We in the Charger world miss Rodney Harrison, although glad he got his ring last year, and this year in two weeks. Pats look favored in the poll so for. I did think more people like the commercials, that is my favorite part as the game always seem to be a blowout.
I know the Pats will probably win, but my vote in the poll went to the Eagles. My real interest in the NFL this season ended with the Saints last game, we went 8 and 8, as we keep saying in New Orleans, ‘SOS’ - same ole Saints, and ‘maybe next year’.
I see someone beat me to getting this final poll up, but I’m glad its here. I can’t say that I have any love for either team, but Philly is one of those teams I love to hate. This is mostly due to their fans–you know, the batteries and ice ball types of incidents. That leaves me to root of the Pats I suppose–begrudgingly. I think–hope–it will be a good game, but no way do I see the Eagles winning. After years of NFC domination in the Super Bowl, the AFC is just too strong these days.
Does anyone have a favorite commercial from the Superbowl ???
I miss Bud Bowl. I thought that was better than many of the games. [(-D][(-D]
Also the frogs, and the lizards. What about you, which do you remember ???[:P][:P][:P]
[:D] Oh I am happy today. They finally Won and won it well. I am an Eagles Fan by birthright. Thank God I wasnt born in Dallas [;)] I figure I can enjoy this for atleast a week, then I will start getting nervous. I am true fan so odds dont effect me. I was the only guy in the bar when they went 3-13 with Koy Detemer throwing on MNF 5 or 6 years ago. So I will pull for them again in blind faith. WooHoo!!!
I would have to say that one of my Favs 9that i can remember (And yes the frogs and the lizards were great, and second on better games some years with the Bud Bowl) was the commericial withthe guy who had the trained hawk to get him his beer. Then finally the girls ask him “where does he get those” “I dont know…” The you see him dive bombing a cafe… That was good…
My favorite commercial was Herding Cats, back in the Internet Bubble days. I think it was for some dot-com, or maybe an online brokerage. For those who missed it, it had a bunch of grizzled western cowhands, only they were herding tabbies and calicos, not Angus and Longhorns.
As for “wardrobe malfunctions,” I really, really hope we don’t get to see Paul McCartney in some embarrasing state of undress.
And for those who don’t like off-topic posts, well, I do! I used to frequent the Flight Simulator forums at AVSIM. They were always pretty tightly focussed, and as a result we never saw as much personality as I see on this forum. Maybe the flight sim types are more geeky and one-dimension than MR people, or maybe it’s just that this forum has the extra latitude to talk about interests other than the Main Topic.
Paul, Tim, you said it best. The Pats are a NON EGO team, and a lot of that has to come from the coaches who preach this behavior. They never put down another team, no matter how weak they may be, they treat other players with class, as well as the fans and the media. Boston sports writers and TV sportscaster are arguably the toughest in the country, and these players handle them with complete professionalism. They also do a lot of humanitarian aid all around the New Enland area, not just Massachusetts.
Look at their record? Look at what they have achieved with so many good players out with the Flu, or out for the season with a broken foot like Ty Law their allstar Defensive back? Many other teams would have folded, but instead, Offensive, and Special teams players came to the coach and said " what can we do help out"? And they did! They played TWO WAYS, Offense and Defense!! How many players, with big salaries, do you see do that? Football is rough enough playing one way without being on the field for both Offense AND Defense in the NFL no less!! Only people who have played football in High School or College can fully appreciate that!!!
They beat the best Offensive team in the league, and they beat the Steelers at home, who have a tremendous Defensive team, big and tough.
I am also happy for the Eagles, they finally have come to the big one after some very disappointing playoff losses over the past few seasons. It should be a good game!!
I mostly watch it for the commercials (the car companys usually have some cool ones) as I don’t really like football. But I like the Patriots. They’ll win, no doubt.
Well the Patriots get my vote after seeing how they destroyed the Steelers and lets not forget the Colts the week before.
I dont think the Eagles even have a chance with or without TO. I wouldnt mind seeing the Eagles win, but I just can’t stand TO.
Was watching ESPN and they were talking about Bill Belichick and how he is up there with Vince Lombardi. The stats they showed, except for Super Bowl wins, both were pretty even.
I could care less ( I know, a 13 year old kid that dosn’t like football, but I have better things to do …not that football is bad, I am just not that fond of it ) I like to watch the commercials ( the ones that are not innapropriate ) I was wondering what this nation was coming to last year when I was most unfortunate to see that half time show…lets pray that this year will not be the same.
