Superliner I vs. II

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping to model the Capitol Limited and was wondering what the difference between a Superliner I and a Superliner II was from the exterior? Can one tell just by looking from the outside which version a car is? Thanks in advance for all your help.

I’m slowly putting together the Capitol Limited too. Its my most frequently ridden train.

Anyhow, there’s one go-to to identify them: they have different trucks. There’s a really clear picture on Wikipedia.

The Superliner II’s have wider entry doors for ADA compliance. The Superliner II lounge cars have a different window arrangement on the bottom level.

Below are links to previous posts I made detailing the differences between the two style of cars:

Superliner I and II differences

*note the above posting link titled Superliner I and II differences and the below link titled Superliner I exterior details to look for, are from a different forum and I’m not sure if you have to be a member to read the postings. If they open for you; for the first one, scroll down a bit until you start seeing prototype photos. That’s where I get into the easy to spot differences. On the second one, my post starts near the top…again with prototype photos.

Below is a link to more of that same post, just further into it. This time detailing other Superliner exterior info (Superliner I’s only) that might be of interest to you:

Hope these are useful. If you have any specific questions let me know. Superliner details is sort of a second hobby of mine [;)]

Superliner II cars were produced at a later date the Superliner I cars. The way I can tell the difference is there is a braket which attaches a stabilizor from the trucks to the frame right above the trucks, and there is a plate at that location on the sides.

I particularly avoid Superliner II cars because the 1980’s on the D&RGW it was Superliner I cars that were used.
