A locomotive question from an ex-railroader who knows little about locomotives:
To your knowledge do any GE U33’s survive and if so what would be the best way to track it/them down?

Welcome, and excellent question. Its funny that you should ask as was recently wondering this myself. I’ll bet that most of the survivors are on shortlines and maybe leasers. Ask it over in the Trains side and I’ll bet that you will get a better response.

The only railroad I can think of off hand is the Lake Superior & Ishpeming. They operate about 12 to 15 U30Cs and 4 C30-7s, all ex BN. They also have 4 or 5 ex Detroit Edison U30Cs, but they are all used as parts. I’m pretty sure that the LS&I never used them, but I have heard that the UP used at least one of them on taconite trains in the Upper Peninsula a number of years ago.

There are some just north of Connersville Indiana. They are being storred for rebuilding or something like that.
