suspended track? help please

i have a medical office in alabama…i would like to have a model railroad running on a track suspended from the ceiling or from the top of the wall. I have no idea how to go about finding the track or suspending the track. I have a great local train store that can help with the setup once the platform is built. But they apparently cannot help with the construction. If anyone knows a company or kit that would be helpful…contact names or website…it would be greatly appreciated. answer on the post or email me at steveuscpeds@yahoo.com…thanks

Hi Steve

I belong to a local HO club that had done the same thing for a couple of restaurants in our area. You could check your local clubs in your area for help and ideas. Im sure there is some one around you that can give you a hand.

There are several companies that advertise suspended track systems in Garden Railways Magazine, so it might be helpful if you can find a copy of this magazine. Though these systems are designed primarily for G scale, some of them might be suitable for smaller track.

are ones that advertised in the June 2008 issue.

You may want to consider the larger scales such as G for a setup like this. I’m assuming you want it running near the ceiling to be out of reach of the “small hands” that could damage/derail it. With this in mind, consider how small HO would seem at this distance. A restaurant near me (coincidentally in the old DL&W train station) has such a track that runs through the bar and dining room, and they use G scale trains. The constant motion may be all that’s required to entertain the youngsters (and not-so-youngsters) and the larger scale will be easier to see and enjoy.

Also G scale is less suseptable to derailments and dirty track problems than HO.
