Susquehanna flooding trouble for Amtrak?

Just saw a picture that I cannot post that showed the Safe Harbord dam and power house in what appears to be very close to being over run by the flood. Since I have never been there is there anyone who knows more or has access to media reports?.

If the power plant cannot produce power what will that do to Amtrak? Hopefully Amtrak’s frequency converter stations will provide enough power??

Safe Harbor Water Power Corp.‘s website - the “River Hot Line” column at the left seems to indicate that the water is very high at "top level 227.4’ " but not a crisis, and will be dropping over the next couple of days: http://www.shwpc.com/

Seems like the high flow has caused 2 generators to be shut down - see: http://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/2011/09/09/flood-gates-open-at-pas-hydroelectric-dams/

blue streak 1 - I know you have a lot of interest in Amtrak’s power generation from this dam. The data on this webpage - esp. near the bottom - may be of interest - see esp. “Hydraulic Turbines & Generators” No. 2 and the * footnote - “*For Railroad electrified service
A Frequency converter, No. 27-67, is available for conversion of power between 25 Hz and 60 Hz. This unit consists of a 31,250 kVA 25 Hz generator direct connected to a 29, 700 kVA, 34,900 HP 60 Hz motor.”:

PDN: Thanks for the info. Filled in a couple holes.

You’re quite welcome - thought it might, and for anyone else who’s interested in that.

Related, I suspect the rebuild of the ‘tie line’ from there to Phila. to replace the PRR’s poles along the former ‘Low-Grade’ Atglen & Susquehanna (“A&S”) branch is nearly complete, but i’ve seen or heard nothing on its status since about this past March.

Wonder how high the water got on the buildings at the Island Park in Sunbury at the junction of the branches of the Susquehanna, [ From which you can see Shikelamy’s Face Head ?] [:^)]
