Anybody know a manufacturer currently producing an SW-1500 switcher in either the Chessie or CSX paint scheme. My LHS doesn’t seem to carry one. I’ve looked on line at the manufacturers and only found Athearn. Looking to compare or maybe an online store that has them. Looking for DCC or at least one easily upgraded. Also fairly cheap. I’m just not prepared to pay $200 for an engine.

There are some Athearn RTR on ebay and under $100.

There are a couple shown to be in stock at this site: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/HO-Scale-SW1000-SW1500-Locomotives-s/1992.htm in the $70 range. You’ll have to add a decoder if you want DCC motor control. But if you want sound, the price goes up drastically.

Broadway Limited Imports is cooming out with an SW1500 with DCC/Sound. While I understand your unwillingness to part with $200, check the Trainworld website. They often sell models cheaper than the manufacturers website.
Mike,Have they ever decided on a release date? BLI been showing their SW1500 for IIRC the last 5 or 6 years…
They announced a Winter 2011 date on their website, but I’m expecting a Summer 2011 delivery. They are still taking orders.
I did a Google search and found them with CSX logo for about $75.00. Athearn seems to be about the only manufacturer though.

Cool! Its been a long time coming…I’m interested in seeing how well their’s match up with the improved Athearn SW1500…IMHO that engine looks like a Genesis and that new motor makes it run whisper quiet like a Kato or Atlas.
