Who is manufacturing an HO Scale SW9?
I seem to be having a problem finding one…
Thanks. Rey
OKAY… DUH!, just found one, LifeLike Proto 2000 SW9/1200… It doesn’t look just the way I’d like it to, but it’ll work…
So now, anyone willing to give the pro’s and cons of this model, a rating perhaps??? I’d appreciate it.

Consider purchasing an Athearn SW7. It’s basically the same body!
I can no longer recall but there are some minor differences between the SW7 and SW9 as prototypically the 9 is an upgraded version of the SW7 and SW8. May be the number of louvers and the horsepower rating. Go to railfan.net and search the locomotive category for these switchers. You may be able to notice the minor differences between models.
I’m planning on purchasing an Athearn SW7 and paint/decaling it as a Seaboard Coast LIne SW9 #172. I’m not extremely picky and I can overlook details like louver counts.
I’m sure other modelers reading this thread will respond with more info. Hope this helps!
BTW: Years back Athearn used to list this switcher as an SW9. Just look at any early 1980s Walther’s Catolog. [;)]
I have a Proto CN SW9 bought it real cheap at a show like $75 cndn
edit: lol just realized you had found it…good model I like proto its cheap and they run nicely on my layout, It runs my aggregates yard with another CN sw3
