Group, This messege is to those who model MOPAC or T&P…Im trying to come up with a paint color similar to the T&P Swamp Holly Orange…Any of you guys or gals have any ideas or can direct me to a similar color…Any help is appreciated…
MR had a Paint Shop article about T&P diesels back in 1988 or '89. I think they used a 50/50 mix of Floquil Reefer Yellow and D&RGW Orange, but I may be misremembering that. I’ll try and look it up in the next few days.
According to my T&P paint charts:
Swamp Holly Orange mix - 3pts Floquil Reefer Orange & 4pts reefer yellow.
Thanks Uncle Bob ! I have several bottles of Floquil and Polly S paint, but if you go back and check the article let me know ! Thanks again !
Thanks Flying Crow, I’ll try this and see what happens…I’ll let you know… I knew I could find out on here,You guys amaze me !
I can’t find my copy of the Oct. '88 MR, so I can’t verify the formula in my earlier post.
Thats ok,I havent tried mixing the paint yet but I will let yall know… Thanks again !
I found it!
Here are the formulas for Swamp Holly Orange, from the Oct. 1988 MR:
Accu-Paint: 2 parts AP-72 D&RGW Yellow, 1 part AP-73 Chessie Yellow
Floquil: 3 parts D&RGW Yellow, 1 part Reefer Yelow
Polly S: 2 parts Reefer Yellow, 1 part Reefer Orange
Scalecoat: 1 part 15 Reefr Yellow, 1 part 39 D&RGW Old Yellow
If I remember right, when I painted a couple engines about 7 years ago, I used 3 parts PollyScale D&RGW Yellow and 1 part Reefer Yellow to make Swamp Holly Orange, and it came out about right.
I hope this helps.
Just looked up the October 1988 article, the formula given for Floquil is 3 parts D&RGW Yellow, 1 part Reefer yellow. The formula for PollyS (which may not be an exact match for modern PollyScale) is 2 parts Reefer Yellow, 1 part Reefer Orange. Scalecoat, if interested, is 1 part Reefer yellow, 1 part D&RGW Old Yellow.
