Swapping Shells

Hello All,

I have an extra Atlas GP38-2 frame that I need to find a use for. I was wondering if i could put an Atlas GP30 shell on a GP38-2? If anyone has any experience doing this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

No, an actual GP 38-2 is 59’2" long. A GP 30 is 56’2"

Try to find a GP 38, 39, 40, 50 or 60 from another manufacturer. Not saying it will fit but at least the length is correct.

Athearn GP shells fit that chassis with very little work. I’ve mounted half a dozen Athearn GP38-2’s on those chassis. Why ? - They were full-on Athearn engines I built years ago, and the new Atlas drive finally made them run as good as they looked !

Ok thanks i’ll keep an eye out for one of those.

Atlas often has decorated diesel engines shells for sale on their website, you might find a GP-38-2 or other body you could use there.

Hmm, interesting. I will need to pull out my Frankenstein Tyco GP30 (best body at the time)/Athearn GP38-2 and see what the difference is, and who may be wrong [:S] Man, not another project…sigh

The GP30 shell will fit on most GP7 / 9 chassis, but not the GP38 / 39 / 40 / 50 / 60 chassis - they are longer.
