Link is to a lead story on MSN this morning. http://photoblog.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/15/16521599-cleaner-steals-train-in-sweden-crashes-into-house?lite

“It was a cleaner who for unknown reasons stole the train,” said a spokesman for Arriva, the company that operates the train line, "

Because it was there? [:)]

“I heard a noise on the balcony, dear. Would you go check to see if the cat wants in?”

It wasn’t that hard for the police to find the missing train. All they had to do was follow the tracks.

Did the end of track device work as intended? How far and how fast did she go?

If the end of track device is considered the 3 story apartment building the train got stopped within - then yes. Report I read stated that the train operated about 1 mile.

You know, if they ever do a “Trackside with Trains” thread where the theme is "Stolen passenger trains hitting condo’s in Saltsjobaden, Sweden, I think I’ll submit the photo from the news link above. For some reason, it 's a very nice composition.

Was Gene Wilder on board?

The last couple of paragraphs from the article posted by jeaton help to pain the picture:

FTA:'.…“The cleaner drove the train at high speed, considerably higher than normal on that stretch, to where the rails end and crashed into a house,” said Jesper Pettersson, spokesman at Stockholm Public Transport (SL)…

The train ploughed past the end of the line and vaulted over a street separating the house from the depot, crashing through a balcony and into a downstairs room in the upscale suburb of Saltsjobaden. SL and police were investigating how she had gained access to the cabin and been able to drive the train…"

Somebody in Sweden gonna have some " 'splaining" to do! [:-,]

Maybe, the 20 year old cleaning lady was practicing for a winter sports event?? Vaulting without a pole?

Any word from Vaughn Monroe about this?

Obviously, an over zealous rail fan. Did she perhaps wave at anyone at the grade crossings?

Suicide by train?

I think we have a member here that can blame this on a grade crossing.

Wow! The train went quite a ways; it must have really been moving to get that far past the bumping post.

sssshhhhhhhh…

Maybe she was trying to emulate the Federal express which crashed into Union Station Washington, DC 60 years ago.

I don’t think she had a turned anglecock a couple of cars from the engine!

The New, European “King of Queens” show

At home; too early in the morning:

Doug (yawning): "Honey, was that the dog running into the fence again chasing cats?

Carrie: Yeah, Probably! Let me take a quick peek out the window!

Doug (grumbling): “That mutt of yours is driving me bonkers!”

Carrie: "Aw quit complaining! (goes to the window)

Carrie: Uhhhhhh. Doug, honey. Remember how you sort of felt, uh, disappointed that I didn’t get you those model trains for Christmas…and I was disappointed that you didn’t hire a cleaning lady to help me?

Doug: "Yeah, but nah…Don’t worry about it.

Carrie: “Well…we hit the jackpot!”

Doug ( looks out the window and fa
