Swedish X2000 fleet to be rebuilt

The X-2000 is a really cool train, and the fluted stainless steel is real classy!

But the trains really did revitalized Swedish intercity rail service bringing true high speed service on curvy and light built track (compared to mainlines elsewhere). There is a lot we could learn from its history and unfortunately I have yet to find a good book or magazine article on them.

I wish Trains Magazine could do a great in depth article on them!

I rode one of these trains in June From Stockholm to Copenhagen. The ride was extremely smooth, the trip was better than any flight I could have taken and the service was excellent - Amtrak and ViARail could learn from the Swedes.

Interesting that these trains were put in service, before Acela and Acela have already had to be rebuilt!!

I rode these trains on the NEC and when they toured through NC. I second Mr. Turon’s comments. I thought then, and think today, that we missed a tremendous opportunity when we didn’t buy their equipment to help revitalize American train service.

I too enjoyed riding the X-2000. I rode it from NYP-DC and from NYP-NHV. I completly with Ben Turon that Trains should do an article about the X-2000. I think that Brian Solaman could do the book.

Too bad we ( Canada and USA ) are always trying to reinvent the wheel when something good exist elsewhere and have made the proof it goes well …
