Switch activates when I want it to remain as is

When my 2026 engine comes near the switch, switch activates when I want it to stay in set direction. Also not getting power to siding off that switch

What kind of track and switch? The dead rail is probably a power-routing issue.

Not sure if my last reply went through so once again. I’m using Switch track 14602/ O31 then two straight tracks leading to switch 5133. The 14602 activates the turn even when set straight and the section of track AFTER the 5133 switch is dead.

I believe I have the fiber pins correct. (curved and straight rails closest to each other have fiber pins)

Could you tell us the track and switch company? It’s possible you’d get a better response by posting this on the Classic Toy Train category.

I think you are using Lionel three-rail track. The folks who follow the Classic Toy Trains category may have experience with the tracks you are using. If you edit your original post, you should be able to change the category.

I’m using Lionel 3 rail tubular tracks. I had power before and switches worked ok. I changed fiber pins (placing them in outside curved section and inside straight section) and I’ve seemed to have lost power. If I’m reading the Lionel instructions correctly my fiber pin placement should be ok. So??? not sure what went wrong

The 14062 (I’m guessing your ‘14602’ is a typo) has the control rails on the OUTSIDE curve and inside straight.

The 5121 has the control rails on the INSIDE curve and inside straight.

If you are putting the insulating pins on them the same way, that could be the issue.

In your last post you stated that you “… had power before and the switches worked OK.”… so what prompted moving pins around?

Gee I naively thought all switches were the same so placed all the pins as I saw in a Lionel on line catalog putting all switches the same way. I now have a place to start and really appreciate the “schooling”.

What prompted the change was, I was changing siding configurations and thought I had the pins placed wrong after reading about pin placement.

I also have 022 switches. What would be the pin placement there? Do the switches have to match up ie-022 to 022 ; 14062 to 14062? Sorry, I’m so electrically ignorant. I’m 80 yo and am just getting back to a hobby I left years ago. Really appreciate the help. Thanks

I’m glad to see that you’re getting some useful information.

Assuming all switches, at least from the same manufacturer, would be alike is certainly reasonable, so don’t beat yourself up over that.

As far as mixing types of switches, that’s no problem as long as you get the insulated pin in the right rail for each.

(edit) I see you asked about O22 - those are like the 14062.

Here is a photo I took of an 022 switch with proper insulated pin placement,

Thanks, now I’m sure how I’m placing them. appreciate it.

Just an up date. I STUMBLED across the cause. Without detailing it I found a broken wire INSIDE the switch replaced it and now have power to the siding and switch is working. So with your help on the right placement of the fiber pins and the repaired wire I’m ok…for now! Thanks everyone.
