i’d like to use a switch contrl system outlined in MRR may’02 using .047wire and 12 ga.rod. any suggestions where i can find these?
Ace Hardware and similar stores have music wire and brass or aluminum tubing. Hobby shops do, too, but usually charge more than a hardware strore.
Guitar strings are a good source for the smaller wire. They are available in many diameters.
I am planning to use neoprene tubing available in many sizes. It is way cheaper than any metal tubing and can readily be bent into a curve or “S” shape if need be. It can be fastened with the cable clamps used to attach wiring to walls.
Handbrake or derailleur cabling for push bikes could be worth a try.
To revisit my favorite, Humpyard Purveyers wire in tubing is wonderful. They have a great set of fasteners and connecters. The levers are cool as well. It costs a little, but it works and looks good.
I have also seen a great application of 1/4 inch dowels connected to DPDT switches and then to the turnouts with pieces of piano wire in all sorts of shapes and bends. They do work great and you get built in power routing.
Also visit the RC plane section of your LHS, they have all sorts of pushrods, bellcranks, and mounting bits.

Will that neoprene hold up? I’d think the wire might slice into it with repeated use.
Model R/C aircraft control cables while more expensive will work. Automotive manual choke cables will work. I have a surplus store here where they can be purchased for about $1 each, so not too pricey.
