Just installed a switch, hooked up power to it , only opens halfway. Just shakes and will not open completley. Need help
Not too much info to go on, but here’s my thoughts.
First, disconnect the switch motor and make sure the points swing back and forth freely. Ballast frequently works its way in, and will keep them from closing properly. (This task needs to be done on a very routine basis. I carry a small brush when operating specifically for clearing switches.)
If the points move back and forth without issue, then try the motor without the points attached to it. If it still gives you problems, then the motor itself is faulty. To diagnose that, we’d need to know whose switch motor it is.

Now that the rain has stopped falling in Pennsylvania, K, took your advise, found no ballist in track area. Found I didn’t have wiring properly done to switch.
Thanks Chuckshobby
I would guess an lgb motor - i found dismantling occasionally and applying a little wd40 works wonders . .glad to know its not just me who wires point motors wrong …
Waht kind of power??
LGB motors use DC power. or AC with a diode/s placed properly.
AC power will make the motor vibrate.
I use 18 volts plus the LGB booster on mine.
